My tribute to Mr. Clarke. I thought I keep it simple and do the thing about spaceart I like the most. An alien planet. One of those worlds he could have described.
I guess like all the others. I have one high res cloudmap (as far as I know the only cloudmap on the whole net) in 8000x4000. From that cloudmap I generate all the maps I need. Cloning, erasing and so on. Sorry, not hand-painted (I wish I where that good and patient )
I recognise this cloudmap in spaceart very often and I sure hope that someone out there has a good heart and uploads (Hi NASA-people, we spaceartists could really... I mean REALLY... need some more high res cloudmaps) some more of these.

If you want to know how to fly ... you have to find out how to miss the ground.
that reflection of the sun on the water makes a world of difference The clouds are great, do you duplicate the clouds layer and emboss it to get a bump effect? Or do you just duplicate it, make it black and put it off to the side a little to simulate their shadow casted on the planet?...Clouds make all the difference I reckon

Why is delivering things in a car called "Shipment" while delivering things by boat is called "Cargo" ?
The whole planet is 3d. There's a layer for the surface and ocean with a map for reflectivity, two layers of clouds with bumpmaps (the cloudmaps throw their own shadows) and one layer for atmosphere. It's rendered with Vray in 3dsmax. Two lights, one reflection and one for the whole thing. This way I don't have to "fake" anything. All I have to do is working in really big maps to get all the detail I want.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More
