Endgame by hoevelkamp Endgame by hoevelkamp
Sooo.... this has been a long time. With no further ado my newest piece. Endgame.

I will probably finish my last tutorial on planet making based on this picture. Included will be:

Craters
Close Orbit Shots (like this one) without buying tons of RAM
Citylights

What more can I say? Enjoy!

Frieso

Edit: Fixed the hard edges on the clouds.

HAMBURG!!! :D

Yeah, it's a rather big dome. The inhabitants took advantage of a crater caused by a serious asteroid-hit. Unfortunately the people of this world were as stupid as we are right now. Turning their own atmosphere to a toxic one. Plant life is still thriving, but the oxygen levels are to low to support the local Fauna. The clouds are lower than the ring wall of the crater is and the atmosphere is flowing around it. (Well, that I could have done better I think;)).

Thats one...Big dome :jawdrop: I wonder what they did to their planet to have to seperate themselves from it, it's a damn healthy looking planet to me :XD: The clouds seem to just cut off long before they reach the dome though  but the details are great

Ahh, now I get it (both the story and reasoning for the clouds :XD:) having the direction of the clouds seeming to swirl around the crater and dissapate more softly near the edge might make it feel more natural, but that could be hard to map correctly (especially if you have to tile the cloudmaps for these closeups, which I assume you do or you'll need maps exceeding 10000 pixels :faint:)

:D

You know, I actually used a 12000x6000 pix map for the planet texture and tiled that 5 times. The clouds are only 4000 pix and tiled also 5 times.

So, what computer do you use (specs).
Will quad-core i7s, two graphics cards (one an NVIDIA) and 16GB of RAM (as well as an SSD) work well with this stuff?

I'm working on a Phenom II X6 1075T with 16GB RAM and a single Sapphire Vapor X 5770 with 1GB RAM. In addition I have an SSD as Bootdrive with all my most important applications on it. So, you're good to go with your machine. ;)

Wow, I'd never dare try that big, my computer would just keep crashing for sure, 4000 sounds a bit more reasonable to me :XD:

I see you fixed the clouds edge too, looks way better now, before they cut off too sharply ;p
