:D That's okay. When I get 2000 or more followers, I might get immortal (or get a pie, I'm not so sure about that).

Haven't heard of Cameron's Avatar, now I want to see it. These remind me of Roger Dean's floating islands.

Thanks a lot. :D I saw the trailer and can't wait to see the movie. The trailer was one of the inspirations for this picture. The other was "Avatar - the last airbender".

They're fun to do aren't they? ;) sometimes you just gotta forget science and just go all out and illustrate what the imagination wants :floating: I love the shape of the islands - very natural. Still looks a bit plain though, like I would have made part of one visible in the bottom-right corner seen really close, as if your'e standing right on the edge looking at the others. The waterfall I would have made a bit "messier" as it goes further down, broken up by air resistance and possibly dragged by wind  but with such a high polygon count - I wouldn't dare ask you to re-render this - I myself just finished waiting for what was a near 26-hour render - and I ain't going to change it now  Did you use dynamic population on the ground? :O

Fantastic planet too! 8-)

Yeah, it was fun to do this. The islands were shaped in GeoControl. I just took the terrain, mirrored it, rotated it 180° and stretched the lower terrain. Then put them together. Fits perfect and doesn't look mirrored at all. ;). The eco system in this picture is plain crazy. I had a polygon count near one trillion. Something like 1,150,000,000,000. I feared the RAM wouldn't be sufficient, but the render came out ok and I even was allowed to save it. :D No dynamic population in this one. The ground terrain was 22500m x 22500m and is fully populated too. Just insane. The waterfall was painted in with Photoshop and I used different pictures of waterfalls for comparison. Angel Falls was one of them. The water falls very far before it breaks up. The planet was more of an afterthought. Had it lying around on my hdd.

My computer would have exploded at that polygon count :explosion: I don't think I've even allowed mine to reach the half-billion mark. I scratch every bit of memory-space I can...oh, and if you don't wnat thousands of tree's appearing behind or to the sides of the camera (where they can't be seen but still add to the size) I just cover all parts of the terrain out of view, with a couple of giant cubes (I make a fully invisible material for them just so they don't influence the lighting on the scene :invisible:) and so long as the "decay near foreign objects" is turned on - it'll stop tree's appearing where they can't be seen and wasting space

Dude, to hide the trees that aren't visible is just brilliant. Why haven't I thought of that? Serious, why? :noes: And your idea on how to do that (invisible blocks) is so obvious, it almost hurts. ;) Thanks for sharing that.

I might make a tutorial on that. Though with the Vue community being so tiny - it'll probably be useless to 99% of my watchers anyway, so I'll probably just link e'm back to my comment here  but yeah, I came up with that last year when I had a significantly weaker laptop than now - and when your'e pushed to the edge and have a lot of limitations, you are forced to come up with genius ideas to compensate :D

Thanks. And to which one do you refer? The last airbender? Pretty nice floating islands there. Or to the movie by James Cameron? Pretty nice floating islands there too. :D Yeah, I saw the trailer to "Avatar" and somehow those islands got stuck in my head.

I like it! It's a cool concept. Guess one have to forget about the strange phenomena that the water is pulled downwards, while the huge islands floats as if nothing affects them though ;-)

Thanks. Yeah, the water... hm... Well, the water is completely fine. It's the rocks in those floating islands which are nearly weightless. ;)

Perhaps the islands kinda floats up and down, not hovering in complete stillness - and this scene has been captured when the island is floating upwards - and hence leaving the water behind ;-)
