Here it is. Finally done. My entry for the science fiction wallpaper contest. [link]

I made it in time. :D

Wallpaper pack includes:

1920x1200
1600x1200
1680x1050
1440x900

Comments, critiques and :+fav:'s are always appreciated.

Enjoy!

Edit: Some cahnges to the sun's surface and to the gases blown of the planet. Also changed the shadow on the planet (just a tiny bit) Hope the picture improved.

Edit2: After looking at this picture for some days more, I wasn't satisfied with the sun's surface any more. Changed it drastically and also the sun's size. It's way bigger now. Somehow more "realistic" I think. Anyway... all changes made within the contest running time. So this is it. Finished! No really... Finished. :D

I try to be very descriptive and conscientious in my comments, so as to give the artist the best understanding of my gut reaction...but honestly, I opened this one & my mind whited out & all I could think was "Wow! That's COOOOLLLL!!!!" So, there you have it. My unjaded and utterly insufficient opinon. =) (p.s. tremendous work.) :)

the new Sun looks a lot better, the other seemed too much like a red and yellow "clouds render" :sun:

Yep, that's what I felt after looking at that sun for some days. Just a shame that the deadline is over. Otherwise I would've added some nice flares too. :(

The only problem I have with it is the lack of flares, need to get some cool arcs of flame going on, but i like the improved texture of the sun, it' a hell lot better than the original.

Ah, damn the flares! It was too late to add them. I'll add them after the contest is finished. :(

At first glance, I thought it looked a little odd, but the more I look at it, the more I fall in love with it ;)

Great job!

Just adding on to the first comment, the planet's shadow could be darker ( but make the heat-cracks still a sbright as they are ) and the side facing the Sun could have a really bright edge ( perhaps just use a soft orange-coloured brush set to "linear dodge" over it a bit ) To give it that really hot, burning feel.

The subtle flames from around the Sun's Corona look cool :flame:

Same here: Don't know if I'm allowed to change/rework/improve my picture after entering the competition. Have to ask.

You're gonna think I'm insane for saying this, but I kinda feel like this could use a little more contrast/brightness... ou need something dark here to help emphasize the light, I think.

Don't know if I'm allowed to change the picture after I put it in the competition. Hmm...
